OpenTTD saved games: 200907

Saved games for 200907 (~r16254 of OpenTTD).

The July 2009 game is a randomly generated 256x256 temperate map, same as the June game.

The June game was road vehicles with a few trains. This time, I went with a more conventional train network. I started with a ring 2-way mainline around the edge, built up from the coal-based moneymaker. Since I had seen two towns grow hugely, I set up a passenger line between them. In later stages, I set up a mini-ICE passenger line between a few towns in the middle, using maglevs.

One end of the first passenger line (the electric railway one) has an SRNW feeder. SRNW, Self-Regulating Network, is a new concept developed by the #openttdcoop folks. Unfortunately it looks ugly and takes up too much space. It also doesn't work so well for mixed-cargo trains, like passenger+mail.

The mainline has several side-line hubs, which I've mistakenly labelled as back-bone hubs. Some of these seem to be about 36 tiles long along the ML, which seems excessive. But that's only because they've been naively and mechanically built with no eye for optimization.I didn't use priority signalling anywhere, either, because that just causes a busy mainline to jam the sidelines. I'd rather have OpenTTD figure out the scheduling.

I've used these GRFs from #openttdcoop's GRF pack version 7.3:
